Street Meet Update -
Sunday 5th February
Oh what a night!!!!
Thank you to all for your support.
The next Street Meet will be on
SUNDAY 12th February
The feedback from racers by the end of the night has been to try for the Sunday again, although we had announced for Saturday. We will be opening the gates at 4.00pm and racing from 5.00pm till 8.00pm
We do not expect as big a turn-out as this weekend ... but
FEEDBACK REQUIRED ON THE FOLLOWING .....
POWER SKIDS
We are looking to holding this type of event fortnightly (alternate weekend to Street Meets)
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?????
These displays have been happening for many years (we are the only track that has permitted street cars to burn out across the startline) but now the question is whether there be a separate event just for these. Time would not normally allow these to be in conjunction with a Street Meet.
*****
There have been suggestions that we try different nights for Street Meet events. We do appreciate that some have given thought to this but we are restricted to the weekends. Keep in mind that our Officials have day jobs and it would be unlikely that they would be able to get to the track in time after finishing work at 5 o'clock as would racers. Remember that we have to have all racing completed no later than 9.00pm so starting later is not an option.
Please keep in mind the following notice that had been posted earlier
The Street Meet on the 21st January has made it quite obvious that there is no longer a need for these regular events. Even fortnightly events will not be an option. If Saturdays event with perfect weather can only bring 10 cars (a couple of these weren't even locals), 2 bikes and 30 spectators. Perhaps once a year is all that is needed.
There are rumours about that others will be taking over ... it is just that .. a rumour. It will not happen. I am sure there are others who think they can do a better job, but the difference is ... they aren't the ones who have given all and taken the risks in giving Townvsille a Dragstrip. Over the past 20 years or so there has been many rumours of persons who have approached us, offering to "buy us out". We have never had an offer.
We had received a proposal to run a "special" street meet with indications of about 32 who wanted to particpate. Most of those listed had not been to an event for some years, a few only attended a couple of street meets last year and others had not even raced before. If they are so keen, where have they been??? If they had been attending there would not be a problem. Or is this a little beyond the comprehension of some.
We do sincerely thank the dozen or so who have supported the Track at these Street Meets. Perhaps they should be listed here, just to make sure they are recognised as being the supporters and not to be confused with those who "say" they have supported dragracing here. All talk and no torque.
Private Testing/On- Track Time
Sessions are offered for those who want to test, or gain track time. The cost is $275 (inc. GST) which is for vehicle and driver. All other persons with the racer are $20 each. These are closed events and are not open to spectators or other observers. These sessions must be arranged in advance and can be held on a week day if required.
